Whether you are new to scrapbooking, or a seasoned vet, we have some advice that can help you make the most of your scrapbooking time.
I don’t know if you’ve tried to make one but it’s actually a lot harder than you think!
Last year, for Christmas, I tried to surprise my friend with a scrapbook full of our friends and our memories. It was supposed to be great… and I waited until the last minute… and yeah… 😳
It didn’t come out horrible but definitely could have been better executed with more thought behind it.
I probably should’ve learned how to make a scrapbook first.
🤦♀️ Lesson learned.
For many, scrapbooking is an art that takes a lot of time and precision.
For others, they view it more as a hobby; you know, something to do for fun in their downtime.
This type of craft is just a great way to preserve your memories in something you can take with you forever or even use these scrapbooks as gifts for people you care about.
With all of my attempts at scrapbooking I’ve learned a crafty tip or two that can help guide you in the right direction.
Whatever your reason for making a scrapbook, let’s look at some steps to get it done right.
Here are six scrapbook tips to help you make the best scrapbook possible!
Plan your project ahead of time
Before you dive right in, take some time to decide what kind of scrapbook you’re going to use, and what you’re going to put in it. You don’t need to stress about the size or type of book you use. Pick something that feels right to you and something that you enjoy.
Determine your theme
While a theme isn’t completely necessary, many scrapbookers love using a theme for their books.
You could do “Summer of 2018” or “Baby’s First Year”, or even “My Favorite Movies”. Your theme could be of a season, of an event, or just a color scheme that you really like.
Part of the fun is deciding on the theme and the elements for yourself. There are no right or wrong ways to do it, so you really have all the power to make it what you want it to be.
Gather your supplies
Once you’ve done some plotting and planning, it’s time to gather your supplies. If you do scrapbooking or other art projects regularly, you may already have a lot of supplies on hand. (These are 10 craft supplies I have on hand at all times!)
If not, you can head to a crafts store, or the craft section of your local Target or Walmart, and look for some supplies. In addition to the book itself, you may also want:
Look at layouts for inspiration
You can also look on Pinterest or at scrapbooking websites at other layouts to give you some ideas for how to set up your scrapbook and your pages. Look at how they add in the photos, quotes, notes, and other items to give you inspiration for your own scrapbook.
Map things out before pasting
As a general rule, you should lay everything out on the page first to get a feel for where and how it will go before you glue anything in permanently.
While mistakes can be fixed and sometimes covered up, it’s still better to try to avoid them in the first place. You’re going to save yourself a lot of stress when you map it all out first.
If you’re new, use shortcuts
If you’re new, or just looking to finish the project more quickly or easily, consider shortcuts.
It won’t make the project any less special. I promise!
You can purchase scrapbooking kits, stickers and photo frames, scrapbooking stamps and other items to make it even easier for you to build your scrapbook.
It’s time 😍
Now that you know how to make a scrapbook, you’re ready to get started!
The tips are here to help you.
Like many other arts and crafts, the more you do it, the better you’ll get at it.
