When I was a little girl, The Little Mermaid was my favorite movie of all time (still is.)
I mean, who doesn’t want to lie on a rock in the middle of the ocean with a pineapple smoothie and comb their hair with a dinglehopper?!?
I’m not sure if it’s because I grew up by the ocean or my imagination was running wild (probably both. Let’s be real!) but I wanted to be a mermaid. SO. BAD.
15 years later…
Do I have a mermaid tail? No.
Is that going to discourage my love of mermaids? Nope.
Did I really make mermaid tails out of crayons? YES, I DID!
Ombré Mermaid Tail Crayons
Time to make some crayons!
Peel the crayon wrapper off and preheat your oven to 250 degrees.
Sprinkle a little glitter (or a lot… I WON’T JUDGE!) into your molds.
Break the crayons into small pieces and place them into the mermaid tails a few of the same colored crayons at a time so it will have an ombré look.
Let’s get to melting!
Place your silicone molds onto a baking sheet and place in a preheated 250° oven for 8 to 10 minutes, checking halfway through to see if they’ve fully melted.
Carefully remove the pan with an oven mitt. Place on the stove until they have cooled down.
Once they are cooled, transfer the molds to the freezer for about 15 minutes. Carefully stretch out the sides of the mold and pop your crayons out.
Voila! Now you have Ombré Mermaid Tail Crayons 😍
- If your mermaid tail is still missing more color, change it up! Instead of doing ombré, make a rainbow.
- Make sure to let the crayon cool down completely. It is very hot!
- Mermaids not your thing? Try making this project with any kind of silicone figure.
