Shark week is upon us!

Growing up by the beach and spending much of my time on boats in the middle of the sea, my parents taught us young all about shark safety. Even then, you can never know too much about sharks which is why I LOVE Shark Week.

Starting Sunday July 22 and ending on July 29, renowned scientists share their new research and recent shark stories to show how amazing and mysterious sharks can be. You can watch all the episodes about Shark Week, featuring celebrities and scientists, on the Discovery Channel.

Inspired by Shark Week and one of my favorite crafts to do as a kid, I decided to share this Sharky Keychain for this of you who are shark lovers or live with one! Using peeler beads and an iron, this fun and kid-approved craft is cheap and time consuming enough to keep your kids occupied or spend time as a family!

Don’t worry! This shark won’t bite 😂 (Okay… I HAD TO!)

Don’t forget to tune-in to watch the ground-breaking episodes about Shark Week on Discovery Channel!

Supplies:

Use your bead tweezers to carefully pick up one blue bead at a time and place it onto your pegboard. It’s easier if you start on the left side.

Now it’s time to practice your patience!

Use your beads to make the outline of the top of the shark.

Then use your white beads to outline the bottom of the shark, adding in the few black beads you need.

Leave a small 2 bead opening on the tail so you can add the keychain clip later.

Once you’ve finished placing the beads, CAREFULLY place a piece of ironing paper over top the beads. I mean super careful… These beads can be knocked over very easily (talking from experience of messing up some of my best pieces!) Press the iron (no water or steam) for several seconds or until you can see the beads starting to fuse together.

Shark Week
Remove the iron and carefully pull the paper back off the pegboard. Again, PLEASE be careful because it’s super HOT! Immediately press flat with your pegboard. Once your beads have cooled, carefully open the keychain and place it in the two open holes in the tail of the sharks.

Crafty Tip:

  • Change out the blue and use pink, green, or yellow to make a colorful shark!
  • You have a bucket full of perler beads… make different patterns! These keychains are super cute and convenient as a gift to your best friend (BFF4EVER❤).
  • Sharks not your thing? What about Mermaids? These Ombre Mermaid Tail Crayons are just as fishy!
